Classifiers: Just Do It!

This training will introduce participants to the appropriate basic and foundational use of Classifiers in American Sign Language. In the first half of the training session a presentation on the foundational and functional uses of ASL Classifiers by native language users will be discussed. After the theoretical foundation has been established participants will be given an opportunity to apply the concepts presented and engage in practical exercises to improve ASL Classifier use in their interpretation work.

Debbie Peterson, M.S., CDI, hails from a Deaf family in Alabama. She received her M.S. in Teaching American Sign Language from McDaniel College in Maryland. She has taught ASL, Deaf Culture and interpreting across the country. She is currently working for Sorenson Communications in professional development.
